About Mark
Wind Power Media is my catch-all for consulting work done from Santa Fe, New Mexico.
I have always been fascinated with telling stories. For a long time, that meant being a music, movie and video-game reviewer. Eventually that led to becoming a media critic and running my own publication, MediaShift, as part of PBS and later as a stand-alone business.
Business? Who said anything about running a business?! Like a lot of other news publishers, I had to figure it all out on my own, from producing a podcast, a video show, hiring staff, running events, selling ads and getting grants from foundations. Whew.
After 12 years of being the do-everything guy at MediaShift, I decided to become a consultant and help others succeed. I moved from San Francisco to Santa Fe in 2020 during the pandemic and started supporting the New Mexico Local News Fund, running a business Accelerator program, fundraising and even lobbying state government! I also worked with fabulous consultants at Dot Connector Studio, doing bustiness strategy and evaluation work, and communications for Knight Foundation, including launching the News @ Knight newsletter. I’ve also supported Press Forward and Tiny News Collective with their communications needs.
Recently I’ve started running offsite business strategy sessions for newsrooms and the McCune Charitable Foundation. It gives folks the chance to take a step back from their day-to-day work and consider long-term vision, mission statement, values, org chart, business model and more. I’d love to do a strategy session for your organization too!
